SOUTH BOULEVARD. If flashy and glamorous are your thing, then this steakhouse likely won't be your favorite, and that's too bad ... especially if you're looking for the best steak in Charlotte. The drab exterior and comfortably boring interior look as if they haven't been updated in decades, but don't let appearances fool you. The food is second to none, and for those in the know, this place is truly a Charlotte institution.

SOUTHPARK. Elegant and classy, this SouthPark steakhouse majors in service, USDA Prime beef and Australian cold water lobster tail. The combination of these three elements proves dynamite every time. Hearty beef cuts, like their famous filet, arrive alongside fresh lobster tail and steaming side dishes ­ all served family-style. Dark woods, gleaming marble, mirrors, gold accents and crisp linens set a sophisticated, romantic backdrop. A great place to impress clients or that somebody special.

SOUTH END. Billed as one of Charlotte's top places for surf-and-turf, McIntosh's surely has won over its fair share of devotees. Indeed, a first-class experience awaits at this classy South Ender, where the main dining room is dressed in elegant linens, yellow walls with stained wood elements, chandeliers and arrangements of fresh flowers. The kitchen, meanwhile, dazzles patrons with courses of Chilean sea bass, broiled Atlantic salmon, steak au poivre, and the 3-lb. Prime porterhouse for two. Outstanding sides, which can serve two or more, range from asparagus with hollandaise to horseradish mashed potatoes.

UPTOWN. If more is better, then this is the best! This classic steakhouse offers enormous portions of beef, lobster and seafood, as well as equally large sides of spinach, potatoes and asparagus. Morton's is within walking distance of many of the city's larger hotels. If possible, save room for a dessert soufflé, ordered, of course, before you realize just how much food you'll be eating! SOUTHPARK. This beloved chain of steakhouses bills itself as the "Home of Serious Steaks," and one visit will tell you that's more than a marketing slogan. Steaks are known for their sizzle, achieved by a dollop of butter dropped on hot-from-the-oven cuts; your choice will still be sputtering when it's placed in front of you. Ruth's Chris isn't intended for calorie-counters; it is a true steak lover's haven. The establishment also takes pride in its great service, extensive wine list and comfortable elegance.
